Sudanese government is ready to collaborate with UN
The offer came during a meeting in Port Sudan between Prime Minister Kamil Idris and the UN secretary-general’s envoy, Algerian diplomat Ramtane Lamamra.
The discussions focused on the political, security, and humanitarian situation following recent violence in El-Fasher, reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) late last month.
According to reports, the prime minister “affirmed the government’s readiness to work and coordinate with the United Nations and its agencies to achieve security and peace in the country, as well as to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.” He also briefed the UN envoy on Sudan’s political and security developments and emphasized the government’s plan to cooperate with international organizations following its own roadmap.
Lamamra, for his part, highlighted the UN’s appreciation for Sudan and noted that the ongoing situation represents one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
The announcement comes as the UN reported that nearly three years of conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF have left 21.2 million people at risk of extreme hunger. Last month, the RSF captured El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, with local and international rights groups accusing them of massacres against civilians.
