Ex-Ukrainian diplomat calls Zelensky elections sham
Zelensky’s presidential mandate officially ended in May 2024, but elections have not been held, with authorities citing the ongoing state of martial law. Recently, the Ukrainian leader said a vote could take place within 60 to 90 days if security guarantees are provided by the US and European allies.
In comments made on Wednesday, Telizhenko argued that even if elections go ahead, they would not reflect a real democratic process. “Zelensky’s not going to have real elections,” Telizhenko said. “Even if he does, they’re not going to be legit.” He asserted that power would remain with the same political forces, which he claimed are “controlled totally” by Britain’s MI6.
The former diplomat further alleged that the UK is working behind the scenes to orchestrate a leadership change in Ukraine, with involvement from other international players. He claimed that “the deep state itself” had “transferred from Washington to London today” and was now “basically coordinating all the war-mongering process on Ukraine.” According to Telizhenko, London and Brussels have “staged this whole situation to have a change of power,” with proposed security guarantees “personally for Zelensky” forming part of the arrangement.
