Pro-government protests take place throughout Iran
In the capital, groups assembled at Enghelab Square, a major central area close to Tehran University, where participants carried national flags and voiced opposition to what they described as recent unrest in public spaces, as stated by reports. Those attending the rallies urged officials to respond to economic complaints while simultaneously rejecting what they labeled as “foreign interference” in Iran’s internal matters. Similar pro-government gatherings were also reported in several other cities, including Kerman, Zahedan, and Birjand in the eastern part of the country.
These rallies took place alongside ongoing anti-government demonstrations that were again reported in various regions on Monday.
Iranian officials have blamed external actors, accusing the United States and Israel of supporting what they refer to as “armed rioters” responsible for multiple attacks in public locations across the country.
According to official statements, security authorities announced that 273 weapons were confiscated and three individuals were arrested during the passage of an international cargo truck through Iran. In a separate development, officials said a five-member “terrorist cell” linked to a prohibited Kurdish group was detained in the city of Khorramabad.
Authorities also reported the arrest of 15 people accused of having connections to Persian-language opposition media outlets operating from outside the country.
The wave of protests began last month against the backdrop of deteriorating economic conditions and a sharp decline in the value of Iran’s currency. The rial has reportedly dropped to 145,000 against the US dollar, fueling sharp increases in the cost of basic goods.
The unrest has unfolded amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, with reports indicating that President Donald Trump—who had previously pledged to “come to the rescue” of Iranian protesters—is weighing “several options to support the protests.”
