US Establishes $1.776 Billion Fund to Address Claims of Government “Weaponization”
(MENAFN) The US Justice Department announced Monday the creation of a $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as part of a settlement resolving litigation brought by President Donald Trump, members of his family, and the Trump Organization over the disclosure of tax records and alleged misconduct by government agencies.
According to the department, the fund is designed to provide a formal mechanism for individuals and entities who claim they were subjected to politically motivated government action—often described as “lawfare” or “weaponization”—to seek redress. This could include formal apologies and potential financial compensation.
The settlement follows a lawsuit filed in federal court in Florida by Trump, his son Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization against the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service, related to the release of confidential tax information.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the agreement reflects an effort to ensure that federal institutions are not used against individuals in a politically motivated manner, stating that the aim is to address past wrongdoing and prevent future abuses.
He also said the new process would allow claimants to present complaints and seek remedies under a structured framework established by the settlement.
The Justice Department noted that the case has now been formally dismissed following the filing of a voluntary withdrawal of the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, bringing the dispute over tax disclosure allegations to a close.
