Israeli Diplomat Shouted Down at ILO Geneva Conference

(MENAFN) An Israeli diplomat was prevented from completing his address at a major international labor conference in Geneva on Tuesday, after delegates unleashed a wave of sustained protests in solidarity with Palestinians, drowning out his remarks entirely.

Israeli diplomat Waleed Gadban took the floor at the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) — convened under the auspices of the International Labour Organization (ILO) — to speak on a General Assembly vote, but was immediately met with a torrent of disruption from attendees across the hall.

Ministers representing multiple nations, alongside trade union, worker, and employer delegates, hammered their desks in protest as Gadban struggled to proceed. Turkish Labor and Social Security Minister Vedat Isikhan, accompanied by members of the Turkish delegation and trade union representatives from Türkiye, were among those who visibly joined the demonstration.

Several participants brandished Palestinian flags inside the conference hall, though security personnel intervened swiftly, issuing warnings and demanding the flags be removed. Others in attendance were spotted wearing scarves emblazoned with the words "Free Palestine."
