Arab Joint List, Democrats Join Efforts to Oust Netanyahu Government
Arab Joint List Chairman Yousef Jabareen and parliamentary group leader Ahmad Tibi met with Democratic Party leader Yair Golan to review the election outcome and discuss cooperation between their political blocs, according to a statement issued by the Joint List.
Preliminary results from the Oct. 27 vote showed Netanyahu's bloc securing 53 seats in the 120-member Knesset, while opposition parties obtained 48 seats. Arab parties collectively won 19 seats, including 11 for the Joint List and eight for Ra'am.
The two groups emphasized their “shared interest in using the parliamentary majority to bring down the Netanyahu-Ben-Gvir-Smotrich government and replace it,” the statement said.
During the discussions, Jabareen and Tibi also highlighted major concerns affecting Arab citizens of Israel and explored measures to pursue “practical and tangible solutions,” according to the statement.
Arab citizens account for approximately 20% of Israel's population, which exceeds 10 million people.
Both sides agreed to maintain contact, coordinate their positions ahead of forthcoming political developments, expand parliamentary cooperation and promote an agenda centered on “equality and peace.”
